The Hawaii County Board of Water Supply on Tuesday approved a public hearing to receive testimony regarding a reduction of the power cost charge.

The Hawaii County Board of Water Supply on Tuesday approved a public hearing to receive testimony regarding a reduction of the power cost charge.

The hearing is scheduled for Sept. 27 at 9:45 a.m. It will be held at the Department of Water Supply Operations Center at 889 Leilani St. in Hilo.

The Department of Water Supply’s power costs were reduced after HELCO cut departmental billings for electricity supplied to its wells and pumps. The proposed price reduction is nine cents, dropping the power cost charge from $1.70 to $1.61 per thousand gallons.

If approved, the power cost charge reduction would go into effect on Oct. 1.
